It has been said by some wise person (no-not me!)
that it takes five years to become an overnight
success. Bike 4 Sight seems to be ahead of
schedule. The 4th annual 2006 event was bigger
and better than ever and exceeded my wildest
fund raising goals. I owe a debt of gratitude to
everyone who helped. Thanks go to Anne
McFadden from Sovereign Bank our title
sponsor, Comcast our media sponsor,
Winterthur Museum and Country Estate for
providing miles of the most beautiful scenery of
any ride in the country, Trader Joe’s for
supplying healthy foods for all the rest stops, all
the wonderful volunteers who had something else
to do but gave up their Sunday to help, the Media
Business Authority for streamlining the process of
putting on an event in Media, the Fabulous 49ers
for live music, and to all the sponsors who believe in
the cause. The biggest thank you goes out to you,
the rider/fund raiser.
Individual fund raising hit an all time high. Why is this so
important? The mission of the Center for the Blind and
Visually Impaired is to rehabilitate and teach blind and
visually impaired individuals to live productively and
independently within their communities. This takes money.
Bike 4 Sight raised over $28,000.00 this year with proceeds
going directly to services for the blind and visually impaired.
I invite you to go to www.cbvi.net and check out the
programs you help support.
The 5th annual Bike 4 Sight ride will be held on June 3,
2007, preceded by our pre-ride kick off party on May 3rd.
Please save the dates. For those of you who were not part
of the 200+ crowd at the 2006 pre-ride party, you missed
an exciting event. Apart from excellent food and
beverages, we had live music and a bicycle clothing
fashion show/auction where we literally auctioned the
clothes off the models’ backs!
Once again I would like to thank you and I’ll see you at
Bike 4 Sight 2007.
Thanks again—-you make me proud
Bike 4 Sight Chairperson,
Harry Havnoonian, played
master - of ceremonies
at the after-ride. |
